Qi Heals

Feeling sick or stuck in life? The ancient practice of Qigong can help.  Qi heals chronic pains and hurts, makes us more creative, and inspires us to be fully alive.

Instructor

Dawn Li, Ph.D. has practiced Tai Chi, Qigong, and meditation for over twenty years and taught for about eight.  She came to the practice when she stumbled into a Qigong for Health workshop at Peking University in China in 1987.  The miraculous benefits she experienced led her on a path of natural healing where she studied Tai Chi under a disciple of Grandmaster Wu Tunan,  Zhineng Qigong under Master Zhang Shuxun, and received an acupuncture certificate in Beijing.

Dawn has a distinct teaching style.  Instead of focusing physically on physical movements, she inspires learners to discover their own inner rhythm and tune in to their body’s wisdom and healing power.  She brings chants, music, poetry, and calligraphy to her practice and teaching of popular forms of qigong and tai chi such as Ba Duan Jin, Zhineng Qigong, Yang Style Tai Chi for a symphonic energy experience.

Born in Southern China, Dawn received degrees in lignutistics, comparative literature, and information systems in the US and China. She lives by the Potomac River near Washington, DC.

Sample Class: Integrated Qi Healing: Music, Poetry, and Movement

1. Connecting with Heaven and Earth: Through slow breathing, chants, and simple movements, we open ourselves to the flow of energy in the universe.  We learn to stand tall, connecting with the sky and the earth.  We gather yuan qi, the source of creation for vibrant life.  2. Activating Inner Medicine for Healing: Through the popular qigong routine of Ba Duan Jin, we use the ancient Chinese meridian medicine to ease our chronic pains and hurts.  Our breathing follows energy channels to massage our core, spine, chest, and legs in eight qigong movements.   Poetry and music accompany the movements.  3. Living the Symphony of Harmony: After realigning our body, mind, and spirit, we synchronize our energy with qi dance, allowing energy to flow naturally. Chants and music accompany the movements.

Poem of Healing Qi

“Circles of Harmony”

Life is full of confusing shapes
until we've learned to
draw circles
from within ourselves --
our own life force

Each of us is an energetic system
Affecting and affected by those around us
Our health depends on
The balance of yin yang principles
And the harmony of the five elements
Metal, wood, water, fire and earth
Within us and surrounding us

Within us plays the alchemy of the elements
Around us performs the symphony of collective battles and triumph

The good doctor is wise
Who knows you and herself
She does not let your symptoms trick you
To cure you of any disease
She finds the root cause
And teaches you to self heal

You will become a doctor yourself
Because your body
Is your gift and your carrier
Your lifestyle, emotions, and thoughts
Are more important than your pills

Be still
Listen to your body as the body never lies
Open the gateways
Harmonize the elements
Charge up the energy channels --
Those Meridian rivers that run through your organs
Connect
Connect the water in you
Connect the fire in you
Connect the earth in you

Draw circles every morning
Invite joy and love into your circles
No more anger and anxiety
Life is not an accident
There are no accidents
Those are not mistakes
Go with the flow
Begin your dance

Dance to the music
that moves you
Dance in sacred circles
of harmony
When harmony is achieved
The body will heal itself

Dance dance dance
