The Chinese ancient method for keeping in good health and longevity of the Taoist School is one of the Bigong methods, which has existed for 2000years. For the purpose of observation the prevention and treatment of senile cardiac or cerebrovascular disease, an analysis of 102 cases were analyzed. The results are summarized as follows. Patients were students of Shandong Senile University and outpatients of our hospital, who were randomly divided into 2 groups: treated group of 66 patients, averaging 63.14 years old, were treated with Chinese ancient method for keeping in good health and longevity of the Taoist School and control group of 36 patients, averaging 62.8±years old, were treated with ordinary exercise. The sex and men ages of these 2 groups were close. According to the differentiation of symptoms and signs of the traditional Chinese medicine, more that 89% of patients in each group belonged to the type of the deficiency of vital function and vital essence of the kidney.

Method of Bigong and parameters for investigation
1. Method of Bigong Treated group carried out 6 kinds of Bigong, which were
Huichugong, Shangyuangong, Baguaxinggong, Hexianggong, Quisuogong and Longyougong. The control group carried out a walk and slow run.
2. Parameters for investigation were (a) clinical symptoms, (b) visual evoked potential determination, (c) Doppler ultrasonic rheoencephalography, (d) serum lipid determination, (e) blood rheological determination and, (T) examination of nail fold microcirculation. After Practicing Bigong for 6 months, the therapeutic effect was comparatively significant. In the treated group, the results by integration of symptoms showed that 36 cases (54.6%) were markedly improved and 24 cases (36.4%) were improved. The total responsive rate was 77.8%. So far as a single symptom was concerned, of the 11 symptoms the improve rates of 6 symptoms were above 80% in treated group while the improve rates of 11 symptoms were below 80% in control group.
Objective parameters such as visual evoked potentials were determined. In treated group, the latent periods of N1, P2, N3, and P3, EXCEPT N2 were markedly decreased after practicing qigong and the difference was significant (P<0.05-0.01). There was no difference before and after practicing ordinary exercise in control group. This suggests that Bigong can improve the transmission rate and functional state of the pathway from retina to the cortex. Other test results indicate that the Bigong can regulate the cerebral blood now, improve the parameters of blood rheology, markedly improve the nail fold microcirculation, decrease the levels of serum cholesterol and increase the levels of high density lipoprotein.

In a word, the parameters obtained indicate that the Chinese ancient method for keeping in good health and longevity of the Taoist School inpatients with hyperlipemia, athrosclerosis, coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, who mainly manifest deficiency of vital function and vital essence of the kidney can prevent, treat and regulate the decrease of the cerebral function.
