The purpose of this study is to examine qigong's effect on the formation of tumor erythrocyte rosette. The mice of ICR strain were put in the place where Mr. Shiyuan Zhou and his students were doing the exercise of qigong, the Jian Mei Jian Fei Gong. The people who did the exercise of Da Mo Mian Bi Gong themselves were also used as the objects in the experiment. In mice more tumor cells pretreated with fresh serum were adhered by red cells after accepting qigong, the percentages of rosette-forming were increased from 5.67+-3.75 to 11.06+-5.15 in the second day after accepting the effect of qigong, and to 27.83+-3.59 in the seventh day, the statistical results showed that the differences compared separately with the number before qigong treatment were significant. The weights of mice were reduced, this indicated that this kind of qigong was effective. But the percentages in tumor cells not pretreated by serum were decreased from 63.18+-8.91 to 54.18+-11.05 in second day (P>0.05) and to 27.65+-10.13 in the seventh day (P<0.01). The tendency of change in people was the same as in mice, but the extent of change was higher in mice, this may be associated with the difference of species and variety of the kinds of qigong, and the time shortage in the process of doing exercise should also be responsible. Why the qigong can both increase and decrease the affinity of red cells to tumor cells in different condition remains unknown. However, only can the improving effect occur in vivo because no serum-free condition exists in the body.
