Qigong has been playing an important role in the treatment of cancer on the basis of theories of Chinese Traditional Medicine, but little is known about its mechanisms of action. In order to explore the mechanisms of the anti-tumor effect of qigong waiqi, 80 white mice were divided randomly into six groups for three experiments:
Exp. 1. Effect of qigong waiqi on the survival time of EAC tumor model in mice.
It was shown that qigong waiqi can prolong the survival time (89%) of mice with EAC tumor.
Exp. 2. Effect of qigong waiqi on peripheral T lymphocyte cell quantities in mice.
Qigong waiqi significantly increased the number of the peripheral T lymphocyte cells in mice with EAC tumor.
Exp. 3. Effect of qigong waiqi on the blood level of SOD in mice.
The blood level of SOD in mice with EAC tumor was increased markedly (318.4+-41u/ml) as compared to control value (249.0+-31u/mo).
These results suggest that the effect of qigong may be related to increase the levels of SOD and the number of T lymphocyte cells in mouse blood.
