Preliminary observation on the effect of waiqi (emitted qi) on the function of making blood

Recently, it had been reported that the immunological function could be increased by waiqi emitted by qigong master. The effect of the waiqi on the function of making blood has not been reported until now. In this paper, we study the effect waiqi on the mouse with leukopenia and the erythroid colony forming unit in plasma clots (E-CFU).
Experimental method:
1. Leukopenia type: The mice were divided into two groups: the waiqi group (N=12), and the normal group (N=12). Before treatment of cyclophosphamide (CPA), the mice in the waiqi group were accepted waiqi emitted by qigong master for 15 minutes. Then two groups of mice were injected i.p. with CPA 75mg/Kg). On the third day after the injection the mice in the waiqi group were accepted the waiqi for 15 minutes again. On the o, 3rd, 6th, and 8th day after the injection the blood was drawn from the socket of eye respectively. The leukocytes were counted.
2. Fetal mouse liver at 13-15th day of gestation was used in this study. In the liver there are many erythroid colony forming unit in plasma clots (included 10,50, and 100 mu l of EPO respectively) is observed after incubation for 58 hr in the CO-incubator.
They were dived into two groups (the waiqi group and the normal group). In the waiqi group, fetal mouse liver cells received waiqi emitted by qigong master for 15 minutes before incubation for 58 hr.
Results:
1. The leukocytes in the two groups of mice were decreased after injection with CPA, but the decrease of leukocytes in normal group was more considerable than that in the waiqi group. Especially on the 6th day after treatment with CPA the leukocytes were significantly decreased in normal group compared with that in waiqi group (P<0.05). On the 8th day after injecting CPA the leukocytes number recover to normal, bit it is higher in waiqi group than that in normal.
2. Furthermore, it was found that the erythroid colony forming unit in plasma clots was increased in the waiqi group compared with that in normal group. Especially in the groups of adding 50 and 100 ul of EPO, the counts of E-CFU were very significantly increased in the waiqi group (P<0.05).
It is shown that qigong waiqi can promote the function of making blood,increase leukocytes and enhance function of immunity.
