It was little known that the internal effects of the qigong exercise on the hemorrheology. Therefore, the hemorrheology was used as an index to study the effect of qigong exercise. 12 persons with mean age at 54.5 who have been practicing qigong exercise for more than one year were observed and the 12 persons who did not practice qigong were taken as control. Of the 5 ml blood drawn intravenously, 1.8 ml was injected into the XSNR2 extracorporeal thrombosis instrument, after being rounded for 15 min at 37 degrees C, the length, dry and wet weight of the thrombus were measured by NXE-I viscosimeter with 0.7 ml vein blood at 3.75, 37.5 150s-1 shear rate. The blood plasma viscosity at 75,150 s-1 shear rate was observed also, The parameters observed included the blood viscosity at the low and high shear rate, hemotocrit, RBC aggregation index and length, dry and wet weight of the thrombus. The experimental results were analyzed with t test. It was suggested that the wet weight of the extracorporeal thrombosis and RBC aggregation index in the qigong exercise group were less than those in the non qigong exercise group (P<0.01). The blood viscosity at low stear rate, length and dry weight of the thrombus in the qigong exercise group were less than those in the control group (P<0.05). Therefore, we considered that the qigong exercise could reduce thrombosis, RBC aggregability and blood viscosity, and could prevent and treat cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
