Since 1958, we have used a combination of Chinese Traditional and Western medicine treatment of chronic reflector± bronchial asthma in which Qigong played a primary role. Through four years of short and ten years of long term follow-up, it was found that 99 patients have shown considerable improvements. The effective rate has risen annually. The general effective and the significant effective rates were 93.9% and 69.7% respectively. On the other hand, the 83 cases which stopped their training for six years after persistent training for four years; the general effective and the significant effective rates were only 3.5% and 46.9% respectively. After seeing these statistics it can be said that the results show satisfaction both in short and long terms follow-up. Since 1970, we extended this combined treatment to the following ailments: hypertension, coronary heart diseases, neurasthenia, insomnia, gastrointestinal diseases, pain syndrome, therapy of chronic bronchitis , pulmonary emphysema, etc. ,and the results are promising also. The biological physical phenomenon of Qigong has been investigated because of its clinical effect from 1961 to the present. The natural process of Qigong has been further explored through such methods as thermography, EEG, plethysmography of the brain, ventilatory movement of diaphragm by Video-flurography, and the TcP02 and TcPC02etc. The mechanism of Qigong were discused.
