Effects of Corydalis Tuber on synthesis of NO and PGE2in murine macrophage RAW 264.7 cells stimulated by LPS

Corydalis Tuber has traditionally been used for the treatment of pain and arthritis. The effect of Corydalis Tuber against lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation was investigated using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), nitric oxide detection, and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) immunoassay on murine macrophage RAW 264.7 cells. The aqueous extract of Corydalis Tuber suppressed nitric oxide production and PGE2 synthesis by inhibition on the lipopolysaccharide-stimulated enhancement of the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and interlukin-1beta (IL-1beta) mRNAs expressions in RAW 264.7 macrophages. These results suggest that Atractylodes japonica exerts anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects probably by suppression of the iNOS, COX-2, and IL-1beta expressions.
