Objective: To try to find out whether the Intelligence Qigong is beneficial to the memory ability of college students.
Methods: 17 subjects (9 males and 8 females, 19-23 year old, average 20.6 years old) are all students of Shanxi Collage of TCM. All the subjects were volunteers, and had never practiced Qigong before.
The dirigation of Intelligence Qigong was scheduled 3 times a day. The subjects did morning practice and nights practice themselves for about 40~60 minutes. After class, the subjects followed the Qigong master to dirigate for 60 minute each day. This study continued 30 days.
Auto-control was applied in this experiment.
Tests were applied to the subjects before and after the course in order to show the changes of the memory ability. After 30 days, the tests were also applied to the subjects just before and after the practice. About 40 minutes were given to the subjects to try to remember the codes of directions, numbers sequence color frame and color pictures, then the subjects were asked to write them down from memory immediately and again after 24 hours.
Results:
The immediate memory scores show statistical differences between the results before and after 30 days’ dirigation (P<0.05), except the memory scores of the direction test (P>0.05). The 24h memory scores show statistic difference between the results before and after 30 days’ dirigation (P<0.01), except the memory scores of the direction test (P>0.05).
The results taken after the last dirigation show significant differences (P<0.01) when compared to the results taken before the last dirigation and the results taken before the first dirigation.
Significant differences (P<0.01) between the results taken before the last dirigation and the results taken before the first dirigation, too.
Conclusion: The dirigation of the Intelligence Qigong can improve the memory ability of college students, both immediate memory and 24h memory.
