Objective: To analyze clinical characters of psychotic disorder caused by Qigong in 51 cases
Methods: The study was carried out in 51 hospitalized subjects who were diagnosed with psychotic disorders caused by Qigong, 19~70 years old 16 males and 35 females. 17 subjects exercised Qigong to cure the disease; 15 subjects aimed to built body, 7 subjects exercised because of curiousness, 3 subjects were invited to practice, 9 subjects had no clear goals. 30 subjects were guided by Qigong masters; 21 subjects learned by themselves. Mental symptoms were recorded in all subjects. Antipsychotic drugs accompanied by psychotherapy were adopted to treat psychotic disorder caused by Qigong.
Results: 35 cases experienced similar symptoms of schizophrenia; 10 cases experienced similar symptoms of emotional disorders; 4 cases experienced similar symptoms of neurosis; 2 cases experienced similar symptoms of hysteria. Through proper treatment, only 4 cases recurred after leaving hospital.
Conclusion: Clinical symptoms of psychotic disorder caused by Qigong are similar to mental disorders, but they have their own characters related to Qigong such as thought, idea, behavior, experience in the process of practicing..
