Clinical Study on 20 Diabetes Cases Treated by Nourishing Internal-Qi Gong

Objective: To try to find out the beneficial effects of the dirigation of qigong in treating diabetes.
Methods: 15 males and 5 females were included in the study. And they were 35 to 72 years old. Some of the 20 subjects were accompanied by complications. There were 5 coronary heart disease cases, 5 hypertension cases, 1 cutaneous infection case and 2 cataract cases. The duration of diabetes lasted from 4 months to 15 years. These 20 subjects main manifestations were: excessive ingestion of food, excessive ingestion of water, excessive urinogenesis, emaciate and lassitude.
Methods: Under the direction of qigong master, 20 subjects dirigated static qigong (Nourishing internal-Qi Qigong) for 40-60 minutes each time, and 3-5 times a day. Some subjects had exercises like shadowboxing or walking according to their conditions.
The ingestion amount of Staple food for each subject was strictly limited to 300-350g per day. The dose of the medicine the subjects usually took was reduced gradually, and the administration of insulin reduced gradually, too, and at the end of the study no insulin was needed anymore.
Results: 2 subjects were diagnosed to be clinical recovery. 17 subjects had improvements. Only one subject had no effect. The total effective ration of the study is 95%.
Conclusion: The dirigation of qigong, especially Nourishing internal-Qi Qigong, has beneficial effects in the treatment of diabetes. And the mechanism may be: 1.Meditation during the practice of qigong helps the brain to protect, renovate itself, and thus the advanced function of the brain can be reinforced, so does the function of regulating blood sugar; 2. The breath is deep and slow during the practice of Nourishing internal-Qi Qigong, and the movement of the diaphragm helps to massage the internal organs. This can recover the function of the organs, and may help to the treatment of diabetes.
