65 cases of Scapulohumeral Periarthritis Treated by Qi-conducting Pressing Acupoint and Massage

Objective: To observe the effect of Qi-conducting pressing acupoint and massage in treating Scapulohumeral Periarthritis.
Methods: 65 patients, who had shown no improvement after physical therapy or other kind of massage manipulations, age ranging between 38 and 45, were the subjects of this study. 24 were male and 41 female. In 44 cases, the arthritis was on the right side, and in 21 cases it was on the left side.
The healer massaged the subject’s arm from shoulder to hand once a week, and the course of treatment was 2 - 4 sessions. The massage was a continuous process, which can be divided into 7 sections mainly according to the operating part: scapular, shoulder, upper arm, elbow, wrist, fingers, laogong (palm-point between first and second finger-joints). At last, the operator emitted Qi to the patient’s shoulder joint for 5 minutes. The subjects should keep self-training everyday. When being in treatment, the operator should put mind more on the Qi.
Results: 60 cases (92.3%) were completely cured, 3 cases (4.6%) showed significant improvement, and 2 cases (4.6%) showed no effect, according to the Therapeutic Efficacy Standard of Clinical Disease edited by the Health ministry of the PLA’s rear service.
Conclusion: Qi-conducting Pressing Acupoint and Massage is a gentle and good method for the treatment of Scapulohumeral Periarthritis
