Objectives: To introduce an effective treatment for Cervical spondylopathy.
Methods: This treatment was made up of two parts. One is the Qi-conducting massage, the other is Preventive Exercises. The details of the Preventive Exercises are not discussed in this abstract.
The Qi-Conducting massage was made up of seven sections. At the beginning, the patient sits quietly, and relaxes. Then, Qi is guided to the right hand, with which the back was massaged along the route of Bladder Meridian and Governing Vessel for three times. And then Qi was guided to one thumb to massage the acupoint of Dazhui deasil, next, Qi was guided to all fingers of both hands to pinch the neck and shoulder from above to below for 3~5 minutes respectively, then Qi was guided to both thumbs to press the acupoints according to the symptoms, then again Qi was guided to both thumbs to massage the parts from behind the earlap to shoulder. In the end, Qi was guided to the ulnaris of one or both palms to tap the neck and shoulder. 47 patients received such treatment for 1~3 courses (3, 5 or 7 days each according to the patients conditions), the interval between the course was the same length of time as that of the treatment.
Results: 25 cases (53.2%) was completely cured (all symptom disappeared), 12 cases (25.2%) showed obvious effect (all symptom ameliorated distinctly, pain was felt only after much violent movement), 8 cases (17%) showed certain effect (pain ameliorated, but still could not move freely), 2 cases (4.3%) showed no effect (no changes at all).
Conclusions:
From the results a conclusion can be drawn that guiding-Qi Massage Combined with Preventive Exercises was a good treatment for the cervical syndrome.
