AST Chiro Qigong (AST Qigong) has been reported about the effects on several diseases including cancer on clinical stance, hitherto. However, critical mechanism of therapeutic effect of AST Qigong has never been well known. Authors tried to investigate the effects of AST Qigong on the expression of transforming growth factor-beta receptor type I (TGF-/ßR type I) in colon cancer tissue by histopathological method. Immunohistochemical study showed the induction of the expression of TGF-/ßR type I in the area of moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma. It was interesting that the induction was stronger in the moderately differentiated area than in well-differentiated area. However, because the critical reason of this interest was not well understood, further study was indispensable. In this study, it was suggested that AST Qigong induced the TGF-/ßR type I expression to inhibit the cancer growth by receiving more effect of TGF-/ßR which was well known cytokine as the inhibitory factor of cell growth.
