ABSTRACT
Objective: To try to observe the effect of qigong-massage in treating cervical spondylopathy and scapulohumeral periarthritis
Methods:
The study was carried out in 100 subjects. All subjects were divided into two groups averagely: Qigong group (21 males, 29 females, and 22-70 years), control group (the common information about the subject did not be discussed). Each group was made up of two kinds of joint disease: Cervical Spondylopathy 24 subjects; Scapulohumeral Periarthritis 26 subjects. The subjects of Qigong group received treatment of Qigong-massage every other day, 15-20 min each time, 6-12 times each course. The subjects of control group received the common treatment of message but which was not discussed in the paper.
Results:
After finishing the treatment, 44% cases (22 subjects, 12 from Cervical Spondylopathy) of the Qigong group were completely cured (all symptom disappeared with joint function in normal); 38% cases (19 subjects, 9 from Cervical Spondylopathy) of the Qigong group showed significant effect (the feeling of swelling and pains greatly ameliorated with joint function much improved); 16% cases (8 subjects, 3 from Cervical Spondylopathy) showed some effect (the feeling of swelling and pains ameliorated with joint function improved); 2% cases (1 subject, 0 from Cervical Spondylopathy) showed no effect (the same just as before).
While in the control group 20% cases (10 subjects, 5 from Cervical Spondylopathy) were completely cured; 32% cases (16 subjects, 7 from Cervical Spondylopathy) showed significant effect; 34% cases (17 subjects, 8from Cervical Spondylopathy) showed some effect; and 14% (7 subjects, 4 from Cervical Spondylopathy) showed no effect.
Significant difference (chi square value 9.41 P<0.05) was shown between the effect of no less than significant one on Cervical Spondylopathy cases of two groups, no difference (chi square value 3.86 P>0.05) between that on the scapulohumeral periarthritis cases of two groups, but much Significant difference (chi square value 12.50 P<0.01) between the two groups.
Conclusion:
It seems that Qigong-massage was good to the patients with cervical spondylopathy or/and scapulohumeral periarthritis, especially for the former one.
