Both Qigong and Chinese medicine originate from Zhou Yi, viewing the universe and human, human body and mind as a whole. Their basic theory is the coordinating theory which comes from Huangdi Nei Jing. They not only lay stress on the origin of illness to cure diseases on the basis of yin and yang, as well as the dialectical law of the five elements, but also emphasize health preservation.
Qigong stresses self-adjustment of one's energy and spirit to dispel blocks from one's mind, regulate the body psychologically and physiologically. It is a project of perfecting personality and self-care, belonging to the category of health preservation.
Chinese medicine by means of herbs, acupuncture, massage, painting and calligraphy emphasizes the visceral state, channel system and body frame. It grasps principles of growth and restraints to illustrate the inner change of the body. It belongs to the category of holistic medicine.
The theory of channel and acupuncture is a specific theory in Chinese medicine. The channel system and visceral state are the two important aspects of the actual manifestations of the body. By observing both the universe and the geography, cultivating moral virtues, and studying inside the human body, Chinese ancestors found out that the channel system was the Qi network only existing inside a living man. The channel system is closely related to one's life procedure, channel theory thus serves to fill in the gaps left by the holistic medical science.
On the other hand, acupuncture and moxibustion can be very effective in treatment of various diseases because it takes acupoints on the basis of both the theory of man to correspond with the universe and the holographic law.
Medical science is the study of human beings. Qigong and Chinese
medicine can be traced to the same origin. They both require man to be aware of the importance of keeping fit from the innermost heart, to perfect the body and spirit, and to improve health consciousness. They also suggest that people should control their own fates and keep free from the large sum of medical expenditure and go back to a normal life of happiness and relaxation so as to complete their life procedure in a natural way.
