ANALYSIS OF KURITA'S SPEED READING SYSTEM FROM THE VIEWPOINT OF MEDICAL QIGONG

Kurita's Speed Reading System which contains qigong-like trainings was proposed in 1987, and was taught in 240 training courses in the past, where we carried out trainings improving six systems (motor system, autonomic nervous system, emotional system, image system, language system, and metabolic system) synthetically. Rapid reading with the speed more than an average of 10 times was achieved in all courses in 10 rounds lessons. We report here the analyzed data of 69 adults who participated in the 222th class (data are shown in Mean ±SD). A feeling of qi between both hands were described by the recognizable maximum distance, which increased to 24±19cm just after the first lesson from 10±11cm at first. Rate of person feeling qi with both hands apart from each other to a maximum was 0% at first, and increased to 50% in the 5th session and to 86% in the 10th session. Rate of persons feeling the movement of an imaginary ball near hands were 50% in the 5th session. Reading speed (characters/min) increased to 21859±15335 in the 10th session from 811 ±241 at first (average 22 ±21 times). Cognitive ability expressed by a score (points) using a maze increased to 22.9 ±4.1 from 7.7 ±2.7, and calculation ability scored by the numbers of addition of figures within a minute increased to 105 ±22 from 70 ±13. Subjective spirit degree in 60 points perfect score increased to 47±7 points from 33 ± 3 points. Time (seconds) to stand on a single foot with eyes closed increased to 69 ±31 (right) and 75 ±26 (left) from 51 ±48 (right) and 58 ±32 (left). Breath holding time increased to 71 ±18 seconds from 63 ±19 seconds. Indefinite complaints of low back pain etc. were reduced. Improvemnet in eyesight, skill of finger rotation exercises, and agility of hands and feet were also noted. The result shows that improvement in general physical health as well as in intellectual ability were attained at a short term.
