In modern society, people are devoted to competition, property and mechanical improvement. It results in the decrease of the labor work day and day as the brain work increases. Therefore, spirit civilization has been ignored. As a result, people with spirit shock becomes more and more. It is not an accident that the neurosis is common in Japan.
Most of Japanese students are studying in university while going to do part time job for more income. They would like to use computers with extra brain work and less labor work. It becomes a big problem that full for the upper but utterly absentminded for the bottom. This is related to the increase of spirit stress.
It was a great start in national and private university in Japan to open the Qigong lesson as one of the physical lessons in Aichi University in 1993. It has been over three years since then. We investigated two classes by sending out a questionnaire to study the effect of Qigong. There were fifty-eight students including forty male students, eighteen female students. The average age of them was 19.7 from 18 to 31 years old.
Contents of the Lesson
30 points for theory: What is Qigong? On the adjustment of Qigong, history of Qigong, effect of Qigong on both the spirit and health, and application of Qigong.
30 points for movement Qigong: a group of training Taiji Qigong, a group of training Yizhichan-Gong, and a group of training other Chinese traditional Gongfu. 30 points for stillness Qigong: Standing, sitting and lying. Of which, lying is mostly used.
The students said 'We enjoy Qigong. ' 'We felt hungry, brain became clear and we were happy in spirit after training', and so on. The effect is the same as the ordinary Japanese people, but the sense of Qi is more sensitive.
With the development of modern society, crime, traffic accident, suicide, destroy of environment become more serious and relationship of people become more complicated. It is very important to keep healthy spirit of the university students.
I emphasize the importance to make spirit be still, in order to adapt to the more complex society when being taught three adjustment in my lessons.
From this result of investigation, I think it is necessary to open the Qigong lesson in university to keep healthy spirit of the Japanese university students to adapt to the circumstance delightedly and live more happily.
