This article mainly reports the effect of qi-emitting of qigong on the body weight. Plasma testosterone (T) and plasma estradiol (E2) in SD rats (weight 200+-20g, 10 weeks, half male and half female). All of the rats were divided into two groups: qigong and control. The qigong group was put in a place away from the reporter about 30 meters and received the action of qi-emitting from the qigong field induced by the speaker, Shiyuan Zhou, who performed the qigong direction in the course of the lecture on the Shiyuan Zhou Calisthenics Gong and Losing-Weight Gong. The control group was put in a distant place from the qigong field and was not given qi-emitting. We found that the weight (g) of the qigong group (n=12) decreased from 200+-11.02 (before being given qi-emitting) to 194+-14.31 (3 hours after being given qi-emitting) (P<0.05). However, their weights raised again to 197.83+-15.15 on the second day and then to 206+-14.57 on the third day after being given qi-emitting. Out there was no significant difference between each of those results (the second day and third day) and that of 3 hours after being given qi-emitting (P>0.55). The level of the plasma testosterone (T), after being given qi-emitting, largely depended on the sex of rats. The content of T in male rats was significantly higher than that of the control group (0.158+-0.01 ng/ml versus 0.096+-0.03 ng/ml; P<0.01), but there was no difference between female qigong group and control group (0.063+-0.02 ng/ml versus 0.042+-0.02 ng/ml; P>0.05), there was significant difference between male qigong group and female qigong group (0.158+-0.01 ng/ml versus 0.063+-0.02 ng/ml; P<0.01). The level of E2 in male qigong group was significantly higher than that of control group (4.63+-1.30 ng/ml versus 6.30+-0.6 ng/ml; P<0.05), but the level of E2 in female group had no significant difference with control group (14.1+-2.7 ng/ml versus 17.0+-3.2 ng/ml; P>0.05). The change of the ratio of E2/T was similar to that of E2, the ratio of E2/T in male qigong group before being given qi-emitting was significantly greater than that after being given qi-emitting (70.98+-26.24 ng/ml versus 29.77+-9.55 ng/ml; P<0.05), but there was no difference in female qigong group (537.66+-375.2 ng/ml versus 246.67+-121.6 ng/ml; P>0.05).

Many authors reported that E2 and E2/T has a relationship with coronary heart disease (CHD), cardiac infarction and diabetes, etc. The above results showed that Shiyuan Zhou Calisthenics Gong and Losing-Weight Gong could increase the level of T, and decrease the level of E2, E2/T, especially in male rats. Therefore, we suggest that this kind of qigong has a significance in enhancing abilities (sportsman), such as reactivity and tolerance, etc., and also a practical significance in prevention and treatment for CHD, hypertensive disease, cardiac infarction and diabetes, etc. It has been expected that the mechanism of the effect which is possibly regulated by hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis, but this needs further study.
