Effect of waiqi (emitted qi) on experimental bone fracture in mice

In this study, the behavior, blood picture, the time of forming bone rust and tolerance to anaesthetic in mice with experimental fracture were observed in order to get an accurate and powerful assessment about therapeutic effect of qigong.

12 male mice (weight 25-31.5 g) were randomized into qigong therapy and control groups. At first, we measured numeration and classied leukocyte in tail blood of mouse, second, we broke their one lower limb with strong force and produced a closed fracture-separation. After that, these experimental mice were exposed to qigong waiqi for 10 minutes (two times per day). At the third day after fracture, the hemogram was repeated to determine, and the results were as follows:

1. The hemoleukocytic amount of the qigong was 17750+-1805/mm^3 (X+-SD) similar to the one of normal group (16900+-2557/m^3, whereas hemoleukocyte count of the control group without qigong therapy (24133+- 4400/mm^3) was much more than that of the normal and experimental mice (P<0.01). In the hemomyelogram, the neutrophil level of the control group (40+-5.66%) also was significantly higher than that of the normal (24.85+-2.82%) and qigong group (29.17+-5.15%)(P<0.01).

2. The control mice were more agitated than the therapy group. It was interesting that the experimental mice stopped action and gather together towards to points of qigong master when the qigong master emitted waiqi. It was indicated that the waiqi can inhibit inflammatory response of mice to fracture obviously and decrease pain from fracture.

3. We observed the bone-formation by X-ray tenth and eighteenth days after fracture. The time of bone-formation in experimental mice were shorter than in the control.

4. At the same time, tolerance of the experimental mice to anaesthetic was stronger than that of the control group, too.

There was no psychological factors to affect the mouse, therefore it is affirmable that all the differences of behavior, hemogram, bone-formation and tolerance to anaesthetic between the two groups were objective and material.
