The spatial variability of electrical activity of the brain from normal state (eyes closed and quiet) to 'Qigong' state have been studied by using the theory of information science. 25 cases topography and electroencephalograms (EEG) under normal state and 'Qigong' state have been recorded. The results show that:
l. The total power of electrical activity of the brain is increased under 'Qigong' state; the power of Alpha 2 rhythm is largely increased but the Power of other rhythms such as Alpha 1 rhythm, Delta rhythm and Beta 1 rhythm are decreased under 'Qigong' state. This indicates that the energy of electrical activity of the brain is concentrated on Alpha 2 rhythm (11-13.8Hz) under 'Qigong' state.
2. The information entropy (H) and the information dimension of Alpha 2 are increased, but the information content (I) and the constraint dimension (D) are decreased under 'Qigong' state. The result suggests that the level of spatial order for Alpha 2 rhythm is decreased. The opposite results are showed in other rhythms such as Delta rhythm, Beta l rhythm and Beta 2 rhythm.
The results also show that under 'Qigong' state, the directions of both the power peak position vector difference and the information moment difference are all from occipital to frontal lobe for Alpha 1 rhythm and Alpha 2 rhythm, but for Delta rhythm, the direction of the power peak position vector difference of electrical activity of the brain is from frontal to occipital lobe.
