Part I in a series on Qi Gong, the remark-g able and diverse, physical and mental exercises system from China. Qi Gong, and its various aspects, has been practiced in China for thousands of years. Results of recent Chinese research on the documented benefits of Qi Gong have stimulated interest and study outside of China. The author explores the classic tradition of Qi Gong in original, Oriental medical and philosophic terms. He discusses Qi Gong's integral relationship to the traditional Oriental science of energy. In subsequent installments, he will delve into its physiological and energetic mechanisms from a Western perspective and explore specific exercises.
