Objective:To try to investigate the effect of Qigong in treating scapulohumeral periarthritis by self-kinesitherapy.
Methods: The study was carried out in eighty-five patients of scapulohumeral periarthritis who were about 50 years old, dyskinesia at shoulder joint, sweeny in partly cases. All were outpatients. The subjects exercised according to the method which include 12 sections with breath-hold adjustment: massaging the meridian around cervical vertebrae; head swinging to all the directions; shoulder lifting and shrugging frequently; massage acromion with controlateral hand; extending up the fingers along the wall; swinging the arms as soon as possible; touching the controlateral helix round head with hand; feeling the controlateral tiptoe while standing; feeling homolateral tiptoe; stretching both arms; swinging on bars; extending fist, and so on..
Results: The state of illness of 85 cases improved differently after the first exercise. After doing exercise for three months, the cure rate was 60% (51 subjects), the rate of obvious effect was 30% (26 subjects), and the rate of some effect was 10% (8 subjects).
Conclusion: It seems that practicing reported Qigong was a good treatment for the patients with Scapulohumeral Periarthritis. The most important thing for the patients was adjusting your breath properly.
