The authors observed the activity of interleukin-2 (IL-2) and the reaction multiplication of spleen cells in mice, under the influence of external qi (wai qi) of qigong. It was found that the external qi could promote obviously the activity of IL-2 (the value of GI was 8.59±4.37 in experiment group and 2.70±0.90 in control group, p 0.01). External qi could also promote the reaction of multiplication of spleen cells in mice excited by ConA. It is suggested that external qi can promote not only the quantity, but also the function of immune competent cells. External qi may influence the immunoregulation and immune response by means of the level of IL-2. It was showed that qigong and external qi may be a safe and effective method of rehabilitation.
