Our goal is to investigate Qigong's mechanism. This paper describes the basic three regulations, i.e., posture, breathing, and physiological activities, in Qigong. In order to show the effects of Qigong exercises, we used physiological measurements, such as EEG, ECG, blood flow, PPG, SpO2, and CO2.
We first tested the Strengthening Qigong (Qiang Zhuang Gong) and Standing posture (Zhan Zhuang) to look at the physiological effects of posture. Secondly, we tested the Six-Word Practice (Liu Zi Jue) to seek the mechanism of breath rhythm, e.g., control respiration. Thirdly, we also tested the physiological effects from the Qigong master when he/she did healing of Qigong therapy.
The results show (i) the blood flow on the carotid artery increased with standing than lying posture; (ii) the blood pressure changed to lower when breathing out longer than breathing in, and the blood pressure changed to higher when inhaling-time was longer than exhaling-time; (iii) doing training time of Qigong longer, their veins kept younger; (iv) doing practices of Qigong should choose a suitable way for personality.
This study shows that different ways of Qigong exercises can take different effects for different persons, and that when using an unsuitable way of exercising or therapy, it can cause damages or except the imagination.
