Influence of qigong waiqi (emitted qi) on volume of blood flow to visceral organs in rabbits under normal and hemorrhagic shock conditions Author: Zhang Jiang//// Affiliation: China [1] Conference/Journal: 3rd Nat Acad Conf on Qigong Science Date published: 1990 Other: Pages: 47 , Word Count: 548 First, an experiment to observe the effect of qigong waiqi on blood flow to finger tips of healthy youth was designed. The results showed that waiqi increased the volume of blood flow of finger tips significantly in comparison with the control group. There were records of qigong improving microcirculation and increasing blood flow in tissue. But up till new little information has been available about the effect of waiqi on blood flow to visceral organs in animals. In recent years Wuang, Jingxian, and other scientists in China developed a method which replaced plastic microspheres with bio-microspheres. Because the red cells of bullfrogs are bigger than the red cells of rabbits, microspheres in the blood were obstructed in the precapillary artery after injecting the left atrium with bio-microspheres. By using a radioactive count of bio-microspheres blocked in local tissue, the volume of blood flow to different organs was measured. The technique of biotic microsphere was used to observe the action of qigong waiqi on blood flow to visceral organs of the rabbits in normal and hemorrhagic shock state. After labelling the red blood cells of bull frogs with 51 Cr, suspensoid of aphylatic bio-microspheres was prepared. 26 rabbits were divided randomly into four groups: normal control group with 6 rabbits, normal qigong group with 7 rabbits, shock control group with 6 rabbits and the shock qigong group with 7 rabbits. The rabbits in the shock control group and the shock qigong group were exsanguinated immediately from common carotid artery to decrease blood pressure to 40-50mm Hg, and kept for 20 minutes. The shock qigong group after 20 minutes shocking and the normal qigong group received qigong waiqi from qigong master Su, Kang-ming. Each group of rabbits was operated on under anesthesia of urethane and injected by suspensoid of microspheres to the left atrium a certain time. 10 minutes after injection rabbits were put to death and their hearts, livers, spleens, kidneys and brains were removed. The radioactivity of samples was determined with R counter. According to radioactivity of each viscera and samples of reference blood, the volume of blood flow to each organ was measured. The results showed that the volume of blood flow to the heart, spleen, and brain in the normal qigong group increased separately by more than 50%. The increase of the volume of blood flow to the brain was significant (P<0.05). During hemorrhagic shock, after receiving qigong waiqi the volume of blood flow to the heart, liver and brain increase separately by 58-81.46%. The increase of blood flow to the heart in the shock qigong group was even greater in comparison with the shock control group (P<0.01). The above studies demonstrate that qigong waiqi indeed increases the volume of blood flow in important visceral organs of rabbits under normal and hemorragic schock conditions. The mechanism might be that tension of smooth muscles of blood vessels in these organs decreased under the effect of qigong waiqi so as to cause the increase in volume of perfusion in these organs. These results once again proved the objective effect of qigong waiqi on living organisms. There was no possibility of psychic suggestion on experimental animals. The study provides a basis for using qigong for improving human health and intelligence, exploring the mechanism on treating diseases. Moreover, it shows a new method for curing hemorrhagic shock.
