Effects of EQR Irradiation on Forced Swimming in Mice Author: Yoshida K 1//Aoki T 1//Adachi Y 2//Yoshihuku Y 3 Affiliation: College of Engineering, Chubu University (Aichi, Japan) [1]//College of Business Administration and Information Science, Chubu University (Aichi, Japan) [2]//High-Tech Research Center, Chubu University (Aichi, Japan) [3] Conference/Journal: J Intl Soc Life Info Science Date published: 2001 Other: Volume ID: 19 , Issue ID: 2 , Pages: 164-169 , Word Count: 174 One of the present authors has developed an EQR (emission from quartz resonance) generator for a new trial to produce artificially 'qi' as is emitted by a qigong master. Mice were irradiated with the EQR generator and the effect on the animals' stamina was investigated. Diet-controlled mice were divided into two groups: an EQR-irradiated group; and a non-irradiated group (control). The experimental animals were subjected to forced swimming in a water-filled tank with a rotating drum and in a water-filled tank without a rotating drum for 15 min each. The periods of active swimming movement in both groups were then compared. There were no significant differences in the swimming times (as measured in the tanks with and without the rotating drum) of either group when given an adequate diet (5g/day). However, when the diet was restricted to 2g per day, after 4 days, the swimming time of the EQR-irradiated group significantly exceeded that of the non-irradiated group. These findings suggest that EQR irradiation has an inhibitory effect on stamina depletion due to an inadequate diet.
