Reiki Vibrational Healing Author: Miles P Conference/Journal: First World Symp on Self-Healing & Power of Consciousness Date published: 2001 Other: Pages: 58 , Word Count: 198 Reiki is a form of vibrational healing which enables practitioners to easily access healing energy, regardless their state of mind or health. It is unique in that it requires no diagnosis, is effective in self-treatment, and is easily learned at the first degree level. Reiki has no medical contraindications. Treatment provides immediate stress reduction. Controlled research is limited, but indicates that Reiki is helpful for anxiety, pain, and some immune indicators (Wardell, 2001; Wirth, 1993, 1996; Wetzel, 1989). This talk will describe programs developed by Ms. Miles at Beth Israel Medical Center, St. Luke's-Roosevelt Medical Center, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and Gay Men's Health Crisis in which out-patients with cancer or HIV and their families and care-givers learn Reiki self-treatment. An underlying principle of the programs is: A patient with resources to address her own suffering is better equipped to comply with conventional medical protocols. Topics covered will include: Background * Description of Reiki * Philosophical and historical context * Comparison with Qi gong and therapeutic touch * Clinical applications Research Evidence * Brief literature review and discussion of * Methodological issues and considerations Reiki Program * Description * Outcome evaluation, including outcome measures, case reports and self-reported patient benefits * Benefits to medical staff Scope of practice/legal issues Demonstration
