V 10. THREE "PROFOUND" PSYCHOENERGETIC EXPERIMENTS

Professor William A. Tiller, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Stanford University, Stanford.

This is a "more than a decade later" perspective on three experiments conducted by the author in the mid to late 1970's. The three experiments are still at the cutting edge. (1) A unique gas discharge device set up in a "counting" mode was used to reveal a significant interaction between the human biofield and electron microavalanches in the device. It was found that the focus of the human intention strongly influenced the counting rate. (2) Children who viewed the air space between widely separated electrodes and perceived geometrical patterns that were a function of the electric voltage or magnetic potential difference between the electrodes. The interaction of the "light" generating these images with lenses and prisms revealed anomalous behavior compared with normal light. (3) Experiments with a unique human utilizing his "special" talent with cameras revealed that he could sensitize a camera so that novel photographic additions or deletions were recorded on that camera's film compared to that recorded on the film in an unsensitized camera (double camera experiment). He was able to obtain clear pictures even when the lens cap was on the sensitized camera. Professor Tiller gives a brief theoretical preamble to acquaint the audience with the author's multidimensional model of the universe, which he uses as a framework from which to comprehend such "anomalous" experimental data. Included is consideration of the role of emitted Qi in such experiments.

Professor Tiller studied engineering physics and physical metallurgy at the University of Toronto in Canada before joining Westinghouse Research Laboratories in Pittsburgh, PA, for a 9-year industrial career. He joined Stanford University as a Full Professor in 1964. He was both Professor and Chairman of the Department of Materials Science from 1966 to 1971 and is now a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. He has published three technical books and about 250 scientific articles in his conventional science fields of crystal growth, surfaces, physical metallurgy, semiconductor processing, this film formation and computer simulation. He has been vocationally interested in the field of psychoenergetics for the past 30 years and has published about an additional 60 papers in this field. He helped to start and was a Director of both the Academy of Parapsychology and Medicine and the Institute of Noetic Sciences.

V 11. A COMPARISON OF CHI GONG PRACTICES IN DIFFERENT CULTURES

by Chiu-Nan Lai, Ph. D. Chi or life energy has been defined as that which holds the body and mind together. The maintenance of physical as well as mental and emotional health depends on the balance of Chi. Furthermore; the development of Chi is closely connected with spiritual development. The understanding of Chi is critical in helping people to prevent and reverse certain diseases, such as cancer. Chiu-Nan Lai discusses the experience of Chinese cancer patients with Chi Gong and some of the scientific explanations. Chiu-Nan Lai also discusses Chi Gong in the context of esoteric Buddhist teachings on the nature of mind and body. The mind rides on the energy "wind" or Chi, and the gross and subtle Chi directly affect the gross and subtle mind. Therefore, different mental states can be brought about through mastery of the "wind." This is the basis for Buddhist yogas. For example, there are numerous cases of Tibetan high lamas who have mastered their Chi to the extent that they can control the death process and direct their rebirth and retain memory of the previous life.

Chiu-Nan Lai currently is the co director of a health training center near Santa Cruz: Land of Medicine Buddha, a center for healing and developing a good heart. Since her introduction to Chi Gong in 1981, Chiu-Nan Lai has been both a student and teacher of Chi Gong in China, Taiwan, U.S., India, Nepal, France and Germany. During this period she introduced Chi Gong to spiritual teachers such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama and several high Lamas in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. She holds a doctorate in chemistry from M.I.T. For 10 years she was engaged in cancer research at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Since 1987 she has concentrated on the "Sciences of the Mind" studying with mainly with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

V34. THE ESSENCE OF CHINESE QIGONG

by Master Fong Ha

This well-known West Coast-based teacher will lead a journey into the essence of Chinese internal arts. Using simple sitting, standing, and walking exercises in conjunction with breathing and meditation practice, he will transmit "hidden treasures" as pathways to better health, physical prowess, and spiritual cultivation. The information and the presentation are first-class.

V44. KEEP YOUR HANDS WHERE THEY BELONG: IN YOUR NAVEL

by Cindy Cosgrove

Similar to Qigong, Chi Nei Tsang uses Qi to eliminate Qi blockages from the mind and body. Chi Nei Tsang, which means "transforming energy of internal organs," focuses on abdominal self massage as the vehicle for recognizing and releasing Qi blockages in the internal organs. It has been used for centuries in China to provide deep healing by working directly on internal problems and energy blocks. The lecture will discuss how to breathe in ways that help your body, and how to focus your awareness on your organs to promote better general health. Chi Nei Tsang works directly on the abdominal organs and on the region of the navel (Dantien), which is the natural source of healing and where you process toxins from all parts of your body and reduce stress and emotional traumas.

Diagnosed as terminally ill from internal organ degeneration, Cindy Cosgrove achieved complete recovery by using Chi Nei Tsang to release stagnate Qi from her body. Over the past 5 years she has studied Chinese medicine, Indian Ayurveda, and Tibetan Ayurveda. Ms Cosgrove uses these background of Oriental Healing in her practice. She graduated from San Francisco State University with degrees in both Communications and Philosophy and Religion.

V45. PSYCHOTHERAPY AND QIGONG

by Michael Mayer, Ph.D.

With the current health care crises, there is a growing awareness of the need for integrated approaches to medical and psychological care. In this light, we will see what qigong can offer psychotherapy, and what psychotherapy can offer qigong practitioners. Dr. Mayer will discuss how he incorporates qigong in his psychotherapy practice with issues such as anxiety, substance abuse and body/mind healing . This lecture will include exercises to help us experience how the traditions of wu ch'i qigong (the stillness from which ch'i arises), zhan zhuang (standing like a tree), and Yi Ch'uan (the intentionality behind the various systems of ch'uan) can facilitate healing and harmonize mind, body and spirit.

Michael Mayer, Ph.D., is a Psychologist in private practice in the East Bay and San Francisco, and Director of The Psychotherapy and Healing Center. For the past two decades he has trained in various oriental healing arts including: standing and walking meditation, wu ch'i qigong, zhan zhuang and Yi Ch'uan (with Masters Cai Songfang, Han Zingyuan and Fong Ha), t'ai chi ch'uan, and acupressure. He has presented his integrated approach to body/mind healing at national and international healing seminars, professional conferences, University of California Extension, Alta Bates Hospital, J.F.K. University, on New Dimensions Radio, and in his East bay qigong classes on Saturdays. He is the author of "Trails of the Heart" (Celestial Arts,1994), and other books.

V47. CHINESE ENERGETIC HEALING

by Kam Yuen, D.C.

By directing simple but powerful energetic corrections to the patient's body, we are able to replace injury or longtime illness and suffering with healing with lasting results. Without drugs, without long-standing therapy, without touching, Chinese energetic healing is fast and the safest way to improve virtually any health problem. See how Kam Yuen demonstrates his skills with members of the audience. Kam Yuen, D.C. is a Doctor of Chiropractic, internationally know lecturer, healer and martial arts teacher of Northern Shaolin Tai Mantis Kung-Fu, Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong for 30 years.

V48. THE UNIVERSAL ENERGY APPLIED THROUGH TCM & QIGONG

by Andrew Wu, L.Ac.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has existed for 5 thousand years and has always viewed humankind as an integral part of the universe. Dr. Andrew Wu will explore the "hidden meaning" of Tai-Ji (the Yin/Yan symbol), including an explanation of humanity's relationship to the universe. Additionally, the relationship between Tai-Ji, the I Ching, and Lao Tse wiil be discussed. Dr. Wu will demonstrate how to use the Tai-Ji Energy Field to guide Qigong practice.

Andrew Wu, L.Ac., O.M.D., has practiced TCM for 28 years. Since moving to the United States in 1988 he taught TCM at both the San Francisco College of Acupuncture and the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences in Oakland, California.
