The physiological effects of multiple field-irradiation (MF irradiation) on 14 healthy adult males were studied by the double blind cross over method. After providing written informed consent, subjects were asked to take a supine position while they received MF irradiation from a source located 30 cm above the navel for 5 minutes, then their physiological changes were monitored for 10 minutes. The same subjects participated in the control and active studies in a random order. Blood pressure, heart rate, electrogastrogram (EGG), electroencephalogram (EEG; F3, F4, P3, P4), cerebral circulation, and skin temperature of the abdominal wall and face were monitored. EEG and EGG waves were analyzed by FFT, and the right-left coherence of the EEG was calculated. LF (0.04 0.15 Hz) and HF (0.15 0.4 Hz) components of R-R variability were calculated to estimate the autonomic nervous balance. The results from active and control experiments were compared with each other after key open. Only active studies showed: 1. increase of amplitude and frequency of EGG; 2. predominance of HF power of R-R variability; 3. changes of the cerebral circulation; 4. changes of EEG (alpha1 wave power and right-left coherence of beta2 wave). The skin temperature of the irradiated abdomen did not change, nor few subjects noticedany warm sensation. These results indicated definite physiological effects of MF irradiation on our body.
